Who We Are

A registered non-profit organization established in 1997 to promote and encourage the learning and playing of acoustic music

Our Mandate

To provide a learning environment for a community of acoustic music oriented youth and adults ages 12 and up. This is achieved through weekend instructional and jam camps plus the occasional one-day events.

Our Goal

To appeal to a wide variety of skill levels and instrument types. Musical styles include but are not limited to; folk, swing, blues, celtic, bluegrass, country, old timey, roots and traditional.

What We Offer

Each year FAMI hosts instructional camps in May and August as well as a jam camp in the fall.  While many instructional classes are targeted towards beginner to intermediate skill levels, there are certain classes each year are suitable for more advanced players.  More advanced players are encouraged to facilitate jam sessions and share their talents with others through mini workshops. Check out our class offerings each year.
Each instructional camp is designed to provide five key elements:

  1. Instrument specific classes for acoustic instruments.
  2. Ensemble classes focusing on specific musical genres, styles or topics and typically involve a range of acoustic instrumentation.
  3. Workshops (by instructors or more advanced registrants) that provide “sampler” length instruction on a wide variety of topics and instruments.
  4. Facilitated and non-facilitated jams, ranging in skill level from beginner to advanced, to experience playing with others.
  5. A friendly and supportive atmosphere in which to learn and enjoy.
