Bursary Program
Made possible by contributionf from the FAMI community
Overview
The FAMI Bursary Program is intended to support those with a strong interest in playing or learning to play acoustic instruments (including vocals and songwriting) and who wish to attend a FAMI event but are unable to due to financial considerations. The Bursaries are awarded based on musical interest, commitment and financial need with a maximum of one Bursary per person per year. The Bursary will cover approximately 80% of the event Registration Cost.
A volunteer Committee oversees the Bursary process and all applications are held in confidence between that Committee and the FAMI Bursary Committee liaison, Registrar and Treasurer.
FAMI relies on the volunteerism of its Board and event participants to make FAMI events possible. Bursary Applicants may wish to consider a volunteer job as part of their online event registration to more fully immerse themselves in FAMI culture.
The Process
Step 1 – Prepare Your Bursary Application
All Bursary applications must include:
- Completed Bursary Application Form
- Two letters of character reference plus reference contact information (email and phone)
Bursary applicants are processed at the same time as all other event registrants. Be aware that some FAMI events fill quickly. We strongly suggest that you start your application preparation before event registration opens, particularly the obtaining of reference letters.
Step 2 – Register for the FAMI Event
Register for the appropriate FAMI event via the Online Registration Process. There will be a special registration type for Bursary Applicants with a deposit of approximately 20% of the event registration cost (plus applicable online processing fees).
Step 3 – Submit Your Application to the Registrar
Submit your completed Bursary Application Form and your reference letters to the FAMI Registrar by scanning the documents and emailing them to the Registrar. These documents must be received by FAMI no later than 3 days after your online registration has been made.
Step 4 – Await the Result of Your Application
FAMI makes every effort to process applications in a timely manner. Each applicant will be informed by email as to whether their application was successful.
Our Bursary Committee will review applications on a first-come-first-served basis. If your application is deserving of a Bursary and you can be accommodated at the specified event then the application will be accepted and the registration confirmed. If the event is already full, then no further Bursaries will be processed, regardless of their merit.
All Bursary applicants who do not gain entrance to the event will have their deposits (plus any online processing fees) promptly returned. FAMI may limit the total number of bursaries awarded per event.
